I’m looking forward to kick-starting the postgrad careers New Year with the annual PhD Final Year workshops in
- Life Sciences – Thursday 7th / Friday 8th January
- Medical and Human Sciences – Tuesday 19th January
Life Scientists cover CVs and Interviews on Thursday 7th (am), but to really get the adrenaline going, on Thursday 7th (pm) and Friday 8th (am) – i.e. this week – we’re also running an Assessment Centre workshop.
All the Life Science PhDs are automatically included for all sessions, but there’s also an open invitation to our MHS final year PhDs/MDs to come along to the Assessment Centre Workshop. This year, it’s before the MHS Final Year Workshop, so I wanted to highlight it now. Further details are as follows:
The Assessment Centre Workshop takes place in the following two sessions – you can attend either or both, but MHS PhDs or MDs need to request a place in advance in order to take part (just so we have enough staff and resources to cover the numbers):
|Thursday 7th January, Lecture Theatre 2, Stopford Building|
|2.00 –||Psychometric Tests|
|4.00pm||The chance to take two aptitude tests (verbal and numerical reasoning) commonly used in large scale corporate/public sector recruitment. Please note, these are strictly timed tests, and so unfortunately you will not be able to take part if you are not able to attend promptly at 2pm. Your results will be made available to you during the following week.|
|Friday 8th January, Lecture Theatre 2, Stopford Building|
|8.45am –||Assessment Centre Exercises|
|12.30pm||A series of group and individual exercises of the type used primarily in large scale corporate/public sector recruitment (including industrial/pharmaceutical R&D recruitment). They include the opportunity for group discussion and group feedback after the exercises.
NB. Some preparation beforehand will be necessary to take part in the individual exercise (a very short presentation exercise). Further details will be available when we receive your request for a place on the Assessment Centre
If you are a final year PhD or MD in MHS and are interested in attending this workshop, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to request a place.
