In a shocking new development on Saturday evening, the server holding all the careers service databases suffered a fatal blow.
It caught us all unawares, though the signs that something big was going to happen had been planted over the last few weeks (OK, the fact that it kept falling over and gurgling, as if it had done an emergency temporal shift, should have given us some clues).
But, there’s a special trick that all central university servers have (given enough notice) – they can regenerate into a whole new server, with the same memories as before, but a new body. Even better, they can do it by Tuesday, instead of making you wait for a whole 7 days.
So, normal service should have been restored on the Careers Service website. If you spot any glitches (eg unable to access your careers account or you see SQL errors showing up on the website), if you let me know, I can pass that on to our web team.
Apologies to anyone who has no idea what all these references are about. For the rest of us, all together now
… diddly dum, diddly dum, diddly dum, ooooweeeeeooooooh …
