Manchester Science Communicator – Tony Wilson

To illustrate my point in the last post about science communication being open to non-scientists, the University has just posted a fantastic archive video of the late Tony Wilson, Manchester commentator extraordinaire (and an English graduate) talking about Baby, the first stored programme control computer, developed in Manchester – or, as Tony Wilson argues, the first computer, full stop. It’s all part of the Digital 60 website, celebrating 60 years since Baby was developed.

As ever, he’s extremely passionate, finds a way of linking Alan Turing and New Order’s Blue Monday, and is so engaging, even a Luddite would get drawn into his subject. Watch it and learn how to engage absolutely anyone with your subject.
