Webchats With Academics, Not-For-Profit, Private Sector & Careers

Just a quick update to point out that the transcripts of the UK GRAD webchats for PhDs are now available on-line.

Have a look at what the experts from Academia (lecturers in anthropology, music and genetics), the Not-for-Profit sector (a charity foundation, Natural England and CRAC) and the Private Sector (Procter and Gamble, Barclays Capital and Accenture) said in response to the questions postgrads asked.

Our own Postgrad webchat transcript, along with all our other webchats, is also available linked from the Careers Service website.

It was a bit of a scary experience sitting there, waiting for the next difficult question to come through (and hoping the touch typing skills I learnt when I was a computer programmer would allow me to keep up) but one I’d repeat if it was seen as useful.* As this was a pilot, we’re now trying to decide whether to invest in the technology to do more webchats. If you care one way or the other, now’s the time to tell us.

*It was a good job though that I’ve got an industrial management background, so the Executive MBA student throwing around terms like PRINCE2 and Six Sigma green belt didn’t faze me – but next time I’d suggest a bit earlier in the chat that he should talk to our own specialist (and separate) MBA careers service!
