How To Get A Job For PGs

9 10 2008

In case you haven’t spotted these (you mean you haven’t been looking at our talks programme?!), we’re doing a series of general careers talks for postgrads, in addition to the sessions we’ve been running in Schools and Faculties – starting tomorrow.

First up, are our Essential Guides to Getting a Job for Postgraduate Masters, and for PhDs :

We’ll be covering “who employs postgrads?”, how to “sell” your postgraduate qualification to employers, how to find jobs (including using agencies and contacts), and how the Careers Service can help you.

The Masters session now says that it is full, but as I mentioned in the last post, we do get a lot of people signing up for presentations and then not turning up on the day, so if you want to go, it’s probably still worth turning up … though 2 years ago, we did have Masters postgrads sitting in the aisles (we’ve got a bigger lecture theatre this year).

Next week, the focus is on CVs and applications :

After that, it’s Interviews and Assessment Centres which I’ll post about closer to the talks (or see the Talks Programme if you want to get it in your diary now).

I’ll see you tomorrow if you’re a PhD researcher, and my colleague, Maddie, will see all those Masters packing Zochonis LT A (if it’s really packed, we can always put on an extra talk).
